This program helps journalists with the ability to grasp the complexities of threats and to cultivate resilience in envisioning strategies transcending regional contingencies. Through informed discussions, the program aims to foster collaborative endeavors toward bolstering security and governance.
This program aims to provide Japanese journalists specializing in security and foreign policy with a deeper understanding of the strategic importance of US-Japan-South Korea security cooperation, as well as opportunities to engage with policymakers and experts from the US and South Korea. Through a series of pre-trip lecture sessions and a study trip to South Korea, organized by GRIPS, participants will gain insights and knowledge. Following these activities, journalists will be expected to contribute to public discourse by writing articles and delivering presentations to share their findings and perspectives on trilateral cooperation.

Journalists are asked to pick one important topic related to the U.S.-Japan-South Korea security cooperation that she/he will focus on studying in the upcoming trip to South Korea. Typically, topics will include:
– Trilateral combined planning (including wartime trilateral coordination)
– Trilateral combined military exercises
– Assessment of North Korea’s possible military actions and trilateral coordinated response
– Trilateral command and control arrangements (including the United Nations Command)
– Civil defense and non-combatant evacuation operations
